So the moment we’ve ALL been waiting for has finally arrived. The collections from Balenciaga are what I always look forward to the most during the fashion weeks, for me Balenciaga is, and has always been my absolute favorite brand (with that said, I know I’m not the only one with love for the house of Balenciaga) so when the word was out about Nicolas Ghesquière leaving I was almost heartbroken (I’m not even kidding, ask my boss what my face looked like when reading the news). There were rumours about Christopher Kane taking over which quickly turned out to be false as Alexander Wang was named the new chief designer. Now, for me, Nicolas Ghesquière is irreplaceable, with his 15 years at the house, no designer or brand have inspired me so much during such a long period of time as Ghesquiére for Balenciaga. For me it was kind of odd to go for an american designer but to be honest, it kind of felt like no one could fill Ghesquière’s place anyway so it might as well be someone totally different, no? And now, after much anticipation the first collection is shown to the world. So what do I think? It’s a well put together collection and Wang refers to classic Balenciaga silhouettes and structures, as well as prints. He’s put a great effort in to keeping true Balenciaga features and the textures feel modern, in that sense a perfect match between Balenciaga and Wang, since Wang has a great eye for new materials. It certainly feels more grown up that what he has done before. Is it mind blowing? No. Nicolas Ghesquiére’s magic is still deeply missed, of course. But let’s remember, Wang hasn’t an easy task to take care of here and over all I do think he’s done a great job. What do you think?

Jag tycker det är riktigt snyggt! Men får samtidigt hålla med dig, det är ju inte så man trillar av stolen kanske.
Enig, synes han har klart seg bra! Fin kolleksjon
Everything you write about has been your “favorite” this and that “for a long time”. I would like to know what a long time means to you?
I also wanna thank you for having such a generic view on fashion.
You’re very well read. It’s well known.
I love Balenciaga !! Great post…

I think this collection is beautiful in a respectful way towards the Balenciaga house, HOWEVER, I consider the type of magic that was connected with Ghesquière to be lost. Nevertheless, Wang has a large following and I agree that it both connects to his type of designing style, as a larger degree of maturity. Still, I am not as drawn to this collection as I was under Ghesquière
Very Wang which isn’t a bad thing, it’s just that it’s supposed to be Balenciage, not Wang.
As you say though, impossible shoes to fill so all in all it’s a job well done!
Klart man gillade kollektionen. Extra mycket tyckte jag om plaggen i “krackeletat” skinn samt detaljen med längre bak och kortare fram i slutet av några överdelar, kom att tänka på… Kalle Stropp! :P
I LOVE THIS COLLECTION. I do agree it was not a huge show stopper. I honestly feel this can be attributed to the anticipation and hype, how could anyone live up to that. I also feel Wang tried to stay composed and respectful rather then explode and lay claim. This because he is an American designer and because it was somewhat a shock that he was chosen. With all the cards stacked the way they where I could not see this going any better. I for one appreciate the restraint and respect.
I also have to note the strength of the collection, anyone would feel tough but beautiful in any of these looks.

The collection is nice but I also wasn’t blown away. Looking forward to see his progression with the brand though.

Balenciaga is my favourite brand too,and this collection looks so Alexander Wang’ish to me. Ghesquière was in the right time and in the right place working for Balenciaga,as well as Wang in his own brand. They both are true geniously talented men, and Wang is simply amazing, but Ghesquière&Balenciaga tandem will be deeply missed anyway
I absolutely agree with you, very well said (written). Maybe it was not wow but he still did a decent job.
But I would like to comment on your job, and your Molami video – it just amazes me how talented you are in both styling and writing and finding the right words. Also the above review is spot on, you’re really good at finding the right words (I’m in awe, as I struggle even to find the right words to comment on this post…:-P)
stunning collection!
